According to the structure and appearance of petroleum coke, petroleum coke products can be divided into needle coke, coke, coke powder and pellet sponge coke 4:

(1) needle coke, with acicular structure and fiber texture clear, mainly used for steelmaking in high power and ultra high power graphite electrode. Because the needle coke has strict requirements of quality indexes in sulfur content, ash content, volatile matter and true density etc., so the production process and raw materials of needle coke have special requirements.

(2) sponge coke, chemical reaction of the high, low content of impurities, mainly used in aluminum smelting industry and carbon industry.

(3) the bullet focal or globular focus: the shape is spherical, 0.6-30mm diameter, generally by high sulfur, Gao Liqing mass residue production, can only be used as power generation, cement and other industrial fuels.

(4): the coke powder fluidized coking production process, the fine particles (diameter 0.1-0.4mm), high volatile, high coefficient of thermal expansion, can not be directly used for the preparation of electrode and carbon industry.

According to the different sulfur content, can be divided into high sulfur (sulfur content above 3%) and low sulphur coke (following sulfur content 3%). Low sulfur coke can be used as anode paste and prebaked anode for aluminum and graphite electrode used for steel mills use. The high sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 0.5%) can be used in the production of graphite electrode and carburetant. The general quality of low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 1.5%) are commonly used in the production of prebaked anode. The low quality petroleum coke is mainly used for the smelting of industrial silicon and the production of anode paste. High sulfur coke is used as fuel in cement plants and power plants.

Calcined petroleum coke (Petroleum Coke Calcined):

In order to meet the requirements of the petroleum coke (coke), the graphite electrode of the steel making and the anode paste for aluminium and magnesium are used for making petroleum coke (coke). Calcination temperature is generally about 1300 degrees Celsius, the purpose is to try to remove the volatile oil coke. This can reduce the content of the hydrogen content of the petroleum coke products, so as to improve the degree of graphite of the petroleum coke, so as to improve the high temperature strength and heat resistance of the graphite electrode, and improve the conductivity of the graphite electrode. Calcined coke is mainly used in the production of graphite electrode, carbon paste, carborundum, food grade phosphate industry, metallurgical industry and calcium carbide, which is the most extensive application of graphite electrode. Coke without calcination can be directly used for production of calcium carbide carbide material, silicon carbide and boron carbide as abrasive material. Can be directly used as coke or blast furnace wall lining brick of blast furnace in metallurgical industry, also can be used for dense coke casting process.
